“The Student of the Year Awards” in 2013 was organized by the South China Morning Post and The Hong Kong Jockey Club. Eight awards were presented to senior-level students in six categories with outstanding achievements in the arts, languages, sports, community services and all round academic ability.

Lai Wun Chi, Myranda (6P) has won the Championship in the Linguist (English) Category on 1 March 2014. She received a scholarship of HK$ 10,000. In addition, Lai Wun Chi is also the runner-up in the category of Grand Prize which is the top prize of the awards event. 

For the Linguist Award, Myranda was asked to give a speech on the topic - "Celebrating Hong Kong?”, and had to show she could think on her feet by answering on-the-spot questions from a panel of judges. It was said that the winner should display a strong passion for language in general and promoting the use of different languages was also a must. When it comes to the use of language, the winner must be proficient, able to project her voice clearly and express her thought effectively, and choose the right vocabulary. Most importantly, she could display the liveliness of English Language. It was believed that Myranda embraced all the qualities and that was why she was crowned as the winner of the Linguist Award.

Myranda has a wide range of achievements in English, such as reading and speaking as well as maintaining a perfect balance between studies and extra-curricular activities. She has also done a lot of community work to give back to society. She was responsible for organizing inter-school debating competitions and coaching the junior debating team of our school. Being an all rounder, she has made impressive achievements in oil painting, choir, dancing and music. She is an inspiring role model for schoolmates and other youths in Hong Kong.
