On 14th April, a total of seventeen students participated in a visit organized by the Interact Club to celebrate Easter with the mentally disabled people in Ching Lan Home in Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital. First, our students paired up with the mentally disabled people and hunted for Easter eggs in the garden nearby. After that, the students prepared for the ingredients to make and decorated omelets with them.
The students enjoyed this service as they all had precious experiences on that day. Participants learnt how to communicate with mentally disabled people. Although those mentally disabled people were not able to speak properly, they gave encouraging responses such as smiling as they could feel the students’ passion and patience. At the same time, students also learnt to be extra careful when taking care of them. For instance, the omelet was cut into tiny pieces so as to facilitate swallowing.
